According to a recently published patent application, Samsung may be working on a wireless charging case for a pair of augmented reality (AR) glasses. Although not much is known about the AR headset, the patent application does shed some light on how the wireless charging case will work. If the company launches the device described in the patent, users will need to place their AR glasses inside a rectangular case to charge the headset when the battery is low.
A patent application filed by Samsung earlier this year was recently published on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) website (via 91Mobiles). The description of the invention, titled ‘Wireless Power Transmitting Device’, states that it relates to a charging device for AR glasses.
In various diagrams included in the patent document, Samsung describes the use of a magnetic coil to transmit power to a receiving device that also has a magnetic coil for wireless charging. These coils are shown in horizontal orientation aligned with the lenses of the AR glasses in Figure 9A
In Figure 2, the charging case is shown in a rectangular box-like design, with a hinge that opens revealing a storage area for the AR glasses. Figures 3A and 3B show the wearable folded inside the case, with the sides facing down.
Meanwhile, Figures 12a and 12b show AR glasses placed inside the charging case, whose frame is positioned vertically. The side coils (shown clearly in Figure 8) are perpendicular to the bottom of the charging case and are placed on either side of the lenses of the AR glasses.
While the patent application isn’t a clear indication of whether or not Samsung plans to offer a pair of AR glasses with support for wireless charging, the adoption of wireless charging could eliminate the need to remember to charge the AR. By doing this, such a device can be made very easy. headset. Much like today’s true wireless stereo (TWS) headsets, the glasses will be fully charged when taken out of the charging case.
