Apple will bring blood pressure monitoring feature to Watch Series 10: Mark Gurman

Apple unveiled the new Watch Series 9 along with the Watch Ultra 2 in September last year. Like its predecessors, the new set of wearable devices provides users with valuable health insights right on their wrists by monitoring heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep patterns, gait, temperature and more. Apple is said to bring a new blood pressure monitoring feature to the upcoming Apple Watch Series 10. This feature will allow wearers to understand blood pressure trends. Samsung offers a similar feature on the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 5 models.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said in the latest edition of his weekly newsletter Power On that the Apple Watch Series 10 will add a blood-pressure monitoring feature. “All signs point to the new Apple Watch getting a blood-pressure checker.” But it doesn’t look like this capability will be coming to existing models.” This indirectly suggests that blood pressure monitoring will be a hardware feature and older Apple Watch models won’t be able to access it through a software update.

Blood pressure monitoring through Apple Watch will help users reduce their reliance on traditional blood pressure readings done in the clinic. Blood pressure tracking through Apple Watch will help individuals track changes and detect high blood pressure, heart disease or other complications early.

Apple isn’t the first tech company to add blood pressure monitoring support to a smartwatch. Samsung currently offers ECG (electrocardiography) and BP monitoring capabilities for the Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Watch 6 series. Health-tracking features can be accessed through the Samsung Health Monitor app. Huawei is also offering a similar automatic blood pressure monitor in its Watch D.
