Apple unveiled the Vision Pro, its first mixed-reality headset, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) last year. It’s been over a year since the official launch and over six months since Apple shipped the product. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is currently working on more products that use Vision Pro’s technology to compete with the Meta. The Cupertino-based company is reportedly considering introducing rival Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in 2027. It may also launch a pair of AirPods with cameras.
Apple is working on additional vision-based products
In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman said that Apple’s Vision Products Group is working on at least four new devices. Apple is considering launching new smart glasses similar to Meta Ray-Ban in 2027 (Review). Along with glasses, the team is also reportedly looking at bringing AirPods with cameras.
The report states that Apple is attempting to save the billions of dollars spent on Vision Pro’s visual intelligence technology. Apple aims to bring Vision Pro’s ability to detect the user’s surrounding environment and supply useful data to more products. These rumors have spread before also.
Additionally, Gurman says that Apple will launch a lower version of the Vision headset early next year, which will be priced around $2,000 (roughly Rs. 1,68,000). It is expected to run on less powerful processors and may be made from cheaper materials. The base Apple Vision Pro is priced starting at $3,499 (roughly Rs. 2,90,000) and is available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage configurations.
This affordable vision headset will not include the EyeSight feature. The second-generation Vision Pro equipped with a faster chip will reportedly arrive in 2026. With the lower price, Apple expects unit sales of the new device to be at least double those of the Vision Pro.
Apple’s Vision Pro was announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2023. The headset runs on the VisionOS operating system and supports both augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies. It is currently available for sale in various countries including the US, China, Europe and Japan. It runs on Apple’s M2 processor and R1 chip.
