Meanwhile, the Apple Watch Ultra is still rumored to get a MicroLED display. According to the tipster, Apple still plans to include this technology in its flagship smartwatches. It is said that a 2026 launch window is being targeted for this product.
In March, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested that Apple was cutting jobs after shutting down its long-running microLED project. In theory, these displays will provide more vibrant visuals than Apple’s current screens and will be brighter. At the time, it was speculated that Apple would include these displays in a future version of the Apple Watch, before introducing them to its suite of other products.
According to Gurman, the complexity of the technology, along with the increasing cost of its development, were some of the reasons for the cancellation of the microLED project.
Other Apple projects in development
It is also reported that Apple is developing many new products. This includes a HomePod with a touchscreen display that may be powered by the A18 chipset and have support for Apple Intelligence features. Meanwhile, an AI-powered tabletop device with a robotic arm is also estimated to be in the works.
The company is also said to be planning to launch a cheaper version of Apple Vision Pro – its mixed reality headset. This device will come with less features but at a lower price.
