Mozi, an alternative social media platform, was recently launched on iOS. The platform’s founder claims that it is not actually a media platform, as users cannot post photos or videos on it. The most unique feature of the platform is that users can use the app to connect with new people and people they know in a meaningful way. While the app is currently only available on iOS, the founder said that a waiting list is already available for Android users, and an app may be released soon.
Mozy social app doesn’t let users upload photos or videos
In a post on Medium, the app’s founder, Eve Williams, highlighted that she was trying to solve the problem of social media platforms that don’t actually help people connect, instead helping them connect. Spread content with people they don’t know. They planned to provide an alternative platform that was private, not allowing for public profiles, numbers of followers, or endorsements from strangers.
The result is Mozy, an alternative social app that doesn’t follow any of the core principles of traditional social media apps. Today, social media apps are focused on posting content in a variety of formats and spreading content among people they do not know. On Mozi, users cannot post photos or videos, and it has no influencers.
“The primary value proposition of Mozy (today) is simple: it tells you when you’re going to the same place (city or event) with someone you know. And the goal is simple: to connect more frequently — and personally — with the people you care about, Williams said on Medium.
There are other use cases for the platform as well. Williams explains that Mozy can be used to help users decide which program to go to. For example, if there are five or six events happening on the same weekend, users can see which event more of their friends will be attending. This way, they can decide which program they would like to participate in.
Williams highlighted that the app was soft-launched a few months ago for a “relatively small community.” Reception to its features has been largely positive, and the founder received feedback that people were coming together as a result of the app.
Currently, users on Mozi cannot create public profiles, plans, or any other information that can be shared publicly. Anything posted by a user can only be seen by mutual contacts (verified using phone numbers). However, users can mark plans only for “close friends.” Users can delete any contact from which they do not receive anything.
