According to the latest leak, there will not be too many changes in the design of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5. Most of the upgrades to Samsung’s Galaxy Z lineup this year seem to be reserved for its smaller and more accessible Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldable. The small flipping foldable is expected to get a larger and more usable external display, which has been a major problem since the first model was announced. Now, leaked information has indicated that Samsung has indeed reserved a major upgrade for next year’s Galaxy Z Fold model, which may be called the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
According to the tipster ravengus (@Tech_Reve) The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 will have an external display that will look very different from every other model in the past. The main reason for this is the major change in the aspect ratio of its display. Changing the aspect ratio of an external display also means a change in the external form factor or overall design. This also means that the aspect ratio of the internal display will also see a substantial change.
And all of these changes will also mean changes to Samsung’s One UI software, which is currently tuned to work better with the taller aspect ratio of the current set of Galaxy Z Fold models.
Recent Galaxy Z Fold models have had tall and narrow displays, with the current Galaxy Z Fold 4 having a tall aspect ratio of 23.1:9, while the Pixel Fold has a wider than usual, 17.4:9. The Pixel Fold’s external display obviously makes it more useful, as content appears the same as it does on a regular smartphone, which Samsung’s external display cuts in half.
The change in aspect ratio of the external display also means that the internal folding display may appear more tablet-like compared to the taller book-like format of current generation devices. New models like the Google Pixel Fold, which is also Google’s first foldable device, have a wider internal folding display with a 6:5 aspect ratio compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s taller 10.8:9 aspect ratio. The new wider aspect ratio also means users won’t have to flip the Galaxy Z Fold 6 models horizontally when watching videos, taking advantage of the wider width over the outgoing model that the current implementation requires.
Meanwhile, the tipster also suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will have the same primary camera sensor as the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5. According to a recent report, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to feature Samsung ISOCELL GN3 50. -megapixel sensor, which is the same as the current Galaxy Z Fold 4 model. The sensor, though a bit older, offers a noticeable imaging leap over the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s camera in our review.
