Remarkable has announced its latest Paper tablet model called the Paper Pro. The new moniker hints at a new range of products by the company, but will not replace the existing Remarkable 2, which recently went on sale in India. The reMarkable Paper Pro comes with several new features compared to existing Paper tablet models, including a new display, improved design, and new accessories, including a new Book Folio Case and a new Type Folio Case.
The reMarkable Paper Pro can currently be pre-ordered only in the US and comes with the standard Marker Stylus for $579 (roughly Rs. 48,600) or the Marker Plus Stylus for $629 (roughly Rs. 52,800).
The Remarkable Paper Pro gets a new design made of aluminum and glass that looks thicker than the Remarkable 2 we recently reviewed. The new custom-built Canvas color display may seem like a big deal, but it only allows nine different colors when writing or sketching on the tablet. The company claims that it supports thousands of colors when viewing or reading documents. The 11.8-inch display also has a reading light built-in, which should be a big upgrade compared to the Remarkable 2, which required external light sources to be readable in dim or dark settings. It’s unclear whether this front-light automatically adjusts like some of Amazon’s Kindle e-readers.
No details have been revealed regarding processing speeds (or the inclusion of faster processors) to power the Spartan user interface. But Remarkable notes that its new display reduces latency to 12 milliseconds when using its marker stylus, which it says is a 40 percent improvement compared to the Remarkable 2 tablet.
In terms of security, the tablet still lacks a biometric form of authentication and relies on a passcode to lock the device. The company also claims that its new tablet will last for 2 weeks on a single charge.
ReMarkable’s new tablet will work with the older Marker and Marker Plus Styli. A larger form factor has resulted in a new set of accessories. The Book Folio for the Remarkable Paper Pro will be available in six colors and finishes and is priced at $89. It has an auto wake-up feature, which is not available on the Remarkable 2 and its sister devices.
There’s also a new type, Folio, for the Remarkable Paper Pro case. This time, the keys are backlit which is again an upgrade over the existing model. It also has an auto wake-up feature when opened with a magnetic marker strap.
