Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajiv Chandrashekhar said here on Wednesday that RISC-V, the open source design of computer chipsets, is becoming a global movement in which India is a leading player.
Speaking at the RISC-V technology conference organized by Tenorient, the Minister said that Indian startups using RISC-V have tremendous potential to develop products, tools and AI solutions with global companies like Tenorient showing interest for collaboration. There are opportunities.

The Ministry of Electronics and IT has launched the Digital India RISC-V (DIR-V) program to launch the first indigenous chipsets by 2023-24 and promote local development of electronic chips.
“We are living in extremely interesting times for the technology sector and over the next five years, the centers of gravity will be rebuilt around new geopolitics and new talent pools. Young Indian semiconductors will be shaping the future of design and creating new products. New tools and new solutions are coming in,” the minister said.
Chandrashekhar, himself a former chip designer, welcomed renowned chip designer Jim Keller’s decision to set up the office of his startup TenStore in India.
Keller is best known for his work in designing the AMD K7 processor, which was the first computer chipset to achieve 1 GHz processing speed, the AMD K8 processor, the Apple A4 and A5 chipsets, and later for his leading design team at AMD. Role.
The Apple A4 chip was used to create the first iPad.
“I am glad that within a year of the launch of the first SEMICON India conference by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, global SEMICON leaders like Jim Keller are coming to India and catalyzing future design startups in the country.
