Apple Intelligence May Not Be Ready in Time for iOS 18, iPadOS 18 Public Release in September: Report

Apple Intelligence is expected to be a highly anticipated addition to the current suite of new features and upgrades that will arrive on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia earlier this year. The Cupertino tech giant promised to make a number of useful new features and integrations available at launch and in the months following the aforementioned update (said to arrive in September). The AI integration that is deeply integrated into the software brings a ton of additional features for users who currently own the latest generation of Apple Silicon-powered devices. However, it now looks like Apple may have to hold off on releasing Apple Intelligence features altogether for a later date.

A Bloomberg report says that Apple will be delaying the release of its much-awaited Apple Intelligence AI-integration across all its operating systems that were supposed to come with it in some form or the other.

Apple made it clear in its WWDC 2024 announcement that not all features will arrive at the launch of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, when these milestone updates will be released for supported devices in September this year.

At the time, Apple clarified that only users whose device language is set to US English will be able to use Apple Intelligence. While many of the features were expected to appear with the aforementioned updates, Apple also said that “some features, software platforms, and additional languages will arrive over the course of the next year.” Without giving any timeline.

The Bloomberg report (which in a way confirms a previous report on the same) now suggests that Apple does not expect Intelligence to be ready in time for the public release of its new software update, which is scheduled to hit supported devices this fall. are supposed to. This indicates that iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia will come with everything that was promised at WWDC 2024 without Apple intelligence.

The author of the report, Mark Gurman, says that Apple plans to introduce its AI features and integration in the next updates (iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1), which it plans to bring by October. It’s actually only a month away from the public release date. Beta software for features to be released in this frequent update will reportedly be available to developers this week as a part of the ongoing beta release cycle.

Gurman even said that many of the features related to Apple Intelligence will be carried forward into the next year as well and some of these will help sell the next line-up of iPhone 16 devices. Apple’s short list of Apple Intelligence-supported devices includes the A17 Pro processor (available only on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, or the M-series chip that’s mandatory for iPad, MacBook, and Mac computing devices.

Even without the new AI-integration, Apple’s latest software update still has plenty of new features for users. This will include more customizable and personalized home screens, new theme options for app icons, a major update to the Control Center, a completely redesigned photo library, the ability to send messages via satellite connectivity, and more .
