Valiant Solutions on Tuesday launched AI-powered surveillance system CivicEye. The artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics solutions provider says its system is capable of monitoring various incidents of public disturbance and illegal activities like traffic violations, theft and unauthorized vendor encroachment. The company says it is working with local government bodies in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh to pilot the AI system in major cities. It is also claimed that the system is fully compliant with India’s data privacy regulations set by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
CivicEye portal will be accessible only to government officials and police
The AI firm said CivicEye is designed to enhance public safety and make law enforcement operations more efficient. It is built on Google Cloud and can process massive amounts of video data to provide real-time surveillance on roads and other public areas.
The surveillance system, which is built using the company’s original AI models, can detect traffic violations (such as speeding and illegal parking), monitor public disturbances, track crowd density, track stray animals, And can identify road hazards such as potholes and send alerts to authorities. act. CivicEye is also equipped with crime detection tools to detect incidents like chain snatching and public brawls. Additionally, it can also keep an eye on issues like unauthorized street vendors.
The company says it has partnered with local government bodies in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh to pilot the project in major cities. CivicEye will use both existing CCTV systems and newly installed cameras to monitor public safety.
Valience Solutions claimed that the front end of CivicEye can be accessed through a web portal as well as a mobile app and will be provided only to governing bodies and police. The AI system is hosted in MeitY-empaneled data centres. Notably, CivicEye is a patent-pending technology.
Gadgets 360 asked the company during a press briefing whether it would have access to identifier data such as vehicle registration plates and individuals’ faces. Questions were also raised whether AI models would be trained on such data. The company said CivicEye does not process or analyze faces, and information such as vehicle number plates will only be available to officers.
The company also said that once the system goes live, the company will not be able to access the system until it performs maintenance and releases updates. When asked about the data used to train the AI model, Valence Solutions said the system was trained on publicly available datasets and simulation data created in-house.
Gadgets 360 also asked the company about the rate of AI hallucinations and failure to notice a breach or falsely reporting an incident. The Indian AI firm responded that although some instances of hallucination existed, for serious violations like theft, accuracy was measured at 99 percent during internal testing. For less serious breaches, the company claimed the accuracy was 97 percent.
CivicEye is currently being tested in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh and Banda in Uttar Pradesh. Surveillance system is also being installed in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh. The company aims to finalize full deployment in these regions within the next few months, with plans to expand to more cities in the near future.
