Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said Saturday that global cooperation and collaboration in technology will continue even as the incoming US administration imposes tighter export controls on advanced computing products.
President-elect Donald Trump, in his first term, imposed several restrictions on the sale of US technology to China citing national security concerns – a policy largely continued under current President Joe Biden.
“Global cooperation in open science, mathematics and science has been around for a very long time. It is the foundation of social progress and scientific advancement,” Huang told media during a visit to Hong Kong.
Global collaboration “will continue. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the new administration, but no matter what, together we will balance compliance with laws and policies, continue to advance our technology and support customers around the world. And will serve.” World.”
Earlier on Saturday, Huang told graduates and academics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in a speech after receiving an honorary doctorate in engineering that “the era of AI has begun”.
The head of the world’s leading maker of chips used for artificial intelligence applications received the award alongside actor Tony Leung, Nobel Prize winner for Chemistry Professor Michael Levitt and Fields Medalist Professor David Mumford.
“The era of AI has begun. A new computing era that will impact every industry and every field of science,” Huang said.
He said Nvidia has “reinvented computing and sparked a new industrial revolution” 25 years after it invented the graphics processing unit.
“AI is certainly the most important technology of our time, and potentially of all time.”
Huang, 61, also told the graduates that he wished he had started his career now.
“The whole world has reset. You’re on the starting line with everyone else. An industry is being revived. You now have the tools you need to advance science in many different areas,” Huang said. “
“The greatest challenges of our time, challenges unimaginable in the past, have suddenly become possible to tackle.”
In the afternoon, Huang University Council Chairman Harry Sham will participate in a fireside chat with faculty and students.
