On his first visit to India, Microsoft AI head Mustafa Suleman shared his perspective about the potential applications of AI in the Indian market. On Wednesday, he expressed his views on AI companions at the Microsoft Building AI Companions for India event in Bengaluru. Suleiman outlined his ambitious vision for the future of AI. He emphasized that AI companions are set to create a new class of digital experiences that will be connected to each individual’s interests and unlike anything the technology has created before.
He highlighted that India is one of their fastest growing markets and has talented engineers and developers working here.
“My personal vision for AI has always been how it can be a companion that can make each of us feel more supported, smarter, and more capable,” he addressed the gathering. He said that people will form meaningful relationships. With his AI companions in the coming days.
Future of AI in India
During a heated exchange with S Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, Mustafa Suleman said that India is one of the fastest growing markets for Microsoft. It has one of the strongest research and development teams globally.
“We have extremely talented engineers and developers, and increasingly, we are including social scientists, psychologists, therapists, screenwriters, comedians and other creative people. This diversity allows us to synthesize more perspectives and get a broader picture of those involved in the design and construction process,” he said.
Asked about potential applications of AI here, Suleiman, who joined Microsoft from Google’s DeepMind, said the Internet already puts information at everyone’s fingertips that has been synthesized, distilled, and personalized. is finely tuned to how a person wants to learn and access information – and that applies as much to the workplace as it does at home. “For example, M365 Copilot already does an incredible job of reasoning over your work data,” he said. During the event they also demonstrated a redesigned version of Microsoft Copilot.
Microsoft had appointed Mustafa Suleiman in March this year to oversee its newly created consumer AI unit. The tech giant has released several upgrades to Copilot in recent months.
