Google Play Store is reportedly getting a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that will make it easier for users to find new apps and learn more about them. The feature is reportedly under development and several strings of code regarding it were found in the latest version of the app. The deployment of the feature is not known at the moment, however, the code highlights that it may be available as a chatbot. This will be the third AI feature for the marketplace, following AI Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and AI Review Summaries.
Google Play Store is reportedly getting a new AI feature
According to a report by Android Authority, Google is working on adding an AI feature that can answer various user questions. This feature was spotted in Google Play Store version 43.3.32-31. There are several strings of code highlighting the feature in the app build that can be named “Ask a Question”.
As of now, Play Store has an AI feature called AI-Generated FAQs. This feature automatically adds FAQs about apps to the app listing page and users can read them to know basic details about the apps. However, this is not an interactive feature and users cannot learn about specific functionalities even if they wanted to.
Google appears to be fixing this issue with the “Ask a Question” feature. According to the report, the publication saw three strings of code. The first says “Made by AI,” which highlights that the under-development feature will be AI-powered. The second string reportedly says, “Ask a question about this app”, while the third string says, “Ask a question”.
Based on this information, this is likely a chatbot-style feature. The publication claims that it may be available to users on both the app listing page and the app results page. Users can reportedly use it to ask any questions they have about a certain app. Furthermore, it is said that the tool will also help users in app search and let them find the desired app easily.
However, these are just speculations and nothing can be said conclusively about the feature. For this we will have to wait until Google officially makes an announcement regarding this.
