Google has launched the Gemini app for iOS users globally, days after it was reportedly spotted during testing in select regions. It enables users to generate images using its multi-modal capabilities, find information on apps like Gmail and YouTube, or enable problem-solving through image queries. The iOS app also features Gemini Live – Google’s two-way voice chat feature for artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots that lets both the user and the AI interact through speech.

Google detailed the launch of a dedicated Gemini app for iOS in a blog post. The Mountain View-based technology giant says it has been launched to provide a more streamlined experience to iPhone users. The app is available for free on the App Store and claims to provide easy access to features that “help improve learning, creativity, and productivity.” It is powered by the Gemini family of large language models (LLMs), including Gemini 1.5.

One of its most notable features is Gemini Live. Introduced at the Google I/O event in August, it lets users interact with an AI chatbot through speech. They can choose from 10 different voices to personalize it, each offering a slightly different tone, pitch, and accent. Gemini Live on the iOS app appears as a waveform icon with a sparkle icon on the bottom-right corner next to the microphone and camera icons. The company says that this feature is for chatting, finding answers or brainstorming ideas. It is currently available in over 10 languages and support for more languages will be introduced in the coming months.
Gemini for iOS can also generate images by leveraging Google’s Imagen 3 generative AI model. Additionally, it can help solve problems by providing custom, step-by-step guidance and presenting tailored study plans. Users can get more information from new sources like Maps and YouTube, or ask an AI chatbot to summarize their PDF using the extension on Gemini for iOS. It currently offers extensions like Google Flights, Hotels, Workspace, YouTube, and YouTube Music.
While Gemini is free on iOS, it also offers Gemini Advanced with Google One premium plan which costs Rs. 1,950 per month. It brings Gemini 1.5 Pro models with advanced capabilities, priority access to new features, one million context windows, and access to Docs, Gmail, and other Google apps.
