Google is reportedly working on adding another new functionality to its Gemini chatbot. The new artificial intelligence (AI) feature said to be coming to Gemini Live is a two-way verbal conversation feature that provides a hands-free chatbot experience. According to the report, the Mountain View-based tech giant is working on adding Gemini Live support to files uploaded to Gemini. Currently, users can only interact with such content via text, but it may soon be available over voice chat as well.
Gemini Live will reportedly support uploaded files
Android Authority details the new Gemini feature. The publication found evidence of the feature during a breakdown of the Application Package Kit (APK) of Google Apps beta version 15.45.33.ve.arm64. Several strings of code reportedly point to the development of this new capability for Gemini Live.
According to the publication, the strings highlight phrases like “open live”, “talk about attachments”, and “open live with attachments”. Here, ‘live’ presumably refers to Gemini Live, and ‘attachments’ refers to files that users upload.
With this capability, users may be able to use Gemini Live to talk about their uploaded documents and spreadsheets, which is not currently possible. This will make it easier for users to gain insights from text-heavy documents without being tied to the Gemini interface.
However, this feature is not expected to be available to all users. currentlyOnly Gemini Advanced customers can upload files and ask questions on Gemini about them. Therefore, Gemini Live support is believed to be for paid customers using Android devices as it is not available on the web. Notably, people can subscribe to Gemini Advanced through the Google One AI premium plan, which is priced at Rs. 1,950 per month.
Gemini Live was first unveiled by the company at the Google I/O event earlier this year. The tech giant first launched it for paid subscribers in August. It was later released for all Android users the following month. The voice-based two-way communication feature also supports Hindi and eight regional Indian languages.
