Google Chrome has been updated with three new artificial intelligence (AI) features designed to help users manage their tabs more effectively. The Mountain View-based tech giant on Tuesday announced a new feature for Chrome for iOS along with two other cross-platform features. The company said that all these features are powered by Google’s AI technology. These features are rolling out a week after the search giant announced a new text-to-speech feature that will allow users to easily listen to articles and web pages.
Google Chrome updated with new AI features
In a blog post, Google said it is improving the experience of managing multiple tabs on Chrome, which can often be a source of frustration. Over the past year, Google Chrome has received several upgrades like tab grouping and similar tabs that address the problem. Now, the company is using AI to power three more features to make the experience seamless.
The first feature is limited to Google Chrome for iOS. The company had previously rolled out Tab Groups for Android devices and Chrome for computers with support for grouping related tabs under a common location. The feature is now coming to iOS users, who will also be able to choose a custom color and name for grouped tabs to make them easier to identify. After grouping the tabs, users will be able to arrange them as they wish.
With a future update Google Chrome will also allow users to save and sync their tab groups. Once synced, tab groups will be accessible on desktop and all mobile devices. With this, users can start a project on one device and then continue without losing any important tabs or worrying about remembering special URLs. This feature is still under development.
Users can also view a restaurant on their phone while planning an outing. If they need a larger screen for research, they can simply go to the desktop and open the browser and find the tab group automatically synced with the device so they can resume research. This will only work if both devices are logged in to the same Google account.
The third is an experimental feature that uses AI to suggest web pages users should revisit. The Google Chrome feature will suggest web pages based on previously opened tabs on the browser on all devices. The company says that this will give relief to users from the trouble of bookmarking pages or remembering URLs.
However, the company did not explain how the AI would prioritize one page over another and whether users could do anything to increase the chances of a page being recommended.
