Gemini Live, Google’s two-way voice chat feature for artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots, is now available for all Android users. The feature was initially released for Gemini Advanced users through the Google One AI premium plan, but now the company is rolling it out to all users. However, only the basic version of the feature is available to users. Choosing between ten different voices is not available in the free tier. A report earlier this month had revealed that Google is rolling out this feature to all Android users.
Gemini Live feature now available for all Android users
Since the Gemini app is still not available on iOS, the Gemini Live feature is not available for iPhone users. However, Android users with compatible devices and the Gemini app will now see a waveform icon with a sparkle icon on the bottom-right corner next to the microphone and camera icons.
Tapping on the waveform icon will give users access to the Gemini Live feature. Simply put, it is a two-way voice chat feature where both the user and the AI respond through speech. While the AI speaks fluently and shows a little voice modulation, it is not the same as the ChatGPAT Advanced Voice Mode feature that comes with emotional voices and the ability to react to the user’s words.
However, this feature is also useful when the user is on the go and would prefer a verbal conversation to a summary of an email or learning about an interesting topic. Gemini Live’s full-screen interface is similar to a phone call. Users will see a sound wave-like pattern in the center of the screen and a Hold and End button at the bottom. If you are interested in using this feature, you can do so as follows.
How to use Gemini Live feature
- On Android devices, download and install the Gemini app.
- Open the Gemini app.
- Find the waveform icon at the bottom right of the screen.
- Tap on this.
- First time users will see a Terms and Conditions menu. Accept it.
- Now you can see the Gemini live interface.
- You can start speaking to get responses from the AI.
- Using the Hold button, you can also interrupt the AI and continue with another prompt.
